Cryptomeria japonica ‘Kamasan’ Description

Cryptomeria japonica ‘Kamasan’ is a dwarf evergreen conifer with a naturally rounded habit and loosely layered, concentric branching. The short, stiff needles are a rich green and create a dense, brush-like texture throughout the year. Mature plants generally reach around 80cm, although growth is slow and may vary with soil and climate. It is well suited to rockeries, Japanese-style gardens, courtyard borders and substantial containers. Grow in full sun or light partial shade in fertile, moist but freely draining soil. It is hardy in many Irish gardens but should be protected from severe exposure and waterlogged winter ground. Pruning is rarely necessary beyond removing an occasional damaged or badly placed shoot.
