Cordyline australis, the cabbage palm, develops into a distinctive evergreen small tree with a stout trunk and dense crowns of long, sword-shaped green leaves. Large panicles of fragrant cream flowers appear on mature plants in summer. Eventually reaching around 4–8m, it is particularly effective in mild coastal gardens and other sheltered sites.
