Clematis montana ‘Grandiflora’

White Anemone Clematis

Award Winner Hardiness H5

Large pure white flowers cover Clematis montana ‘Grandiflora’ in late spring and early summer. This vigorous mountain clematis rapidly clothes substantial fences, pergolas, sheds and mature trees, but its eventual size makes it unsuitable for small gardens or lightweight supports.

Clematis montana ‘Grandiflora’ Description

Clematis montana ‘Grandiflora’ is a vigorous deciduous climber grown for its profuse late-spring display. Large single white flowers with four broad petals are produced along established stems, often covering the green foliage for several weeks. The plant can reach 4 to 8 metres and is excellent for disguising large structures, climbing into mature trees or covering a long fence. Provide a strong permanent support and allow adequate room for its eventual spread. Grow in sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil, with the root area shaded. It is hardy and generally easy to grow in Ireland. Routine pruning is unnecessary. If control is required, shorten overcrowded or excessive stems immediately after flowering rather than during winter.
