Clematis chrysocoma Description

Clematis chrysocoma is a deciduous climbing species from China, recognised by the yellowish or golden hairs covering its young stems, leaves and flower stalks. Single flowers appear during spring and early summer and can vary from white through rose-pink to rose-purple, with four spreading petals surrounding yellow anthers. The plant needs a trellis, fence or open shrub through which its stems can climb. Grow in sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil, with the root area kept cool. A sheltered position is advisable in Ireland, particularly in colder or exposed gardens. Flowers are mainly produced on older ripened stems, so avoid hard annual pruning. Remove dead or overcrowded growth after flowering.
