Choisya ternata ‘Scented Gem’ Description

Choisya ternata ‘Scented Gem’ forms a rounded evergreen shrub with glossy dark green leaves divided into seven slim leaflets. Clusters of pink buds open into highly scented white flowers during spring, often followed by a smaller repeat flush in early autumn. Its fragrance makes it particularly suitable near entrances, paths and seating areas, while the permanent foliage provides winter structure. Mature plants commonly reach around 1.2 to 1.5 metres high and wide, although older specimens may grow larger. Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil and shelter it from severe easterly winds. It performs well in mild Irish gardens but dislikes heavy, waterlogged ground. Prune lightly after flowering only where shaping is needed.
