Carex pendula, the native pendulous sedge, is a substantial evergreen perennial forming broad clumps of dark green, pleated leaves with tall stems carrying long, gracefully drooping flower spikes. Reaching up to around 1.5m, it is particularly effective beside water or in damp naturalistic planting, and tolerates wetter ground better than many ornamental grasses.
