Silver Birch
Betula pendula, the silver birch, is an elegant deciduous tree with a light, narrow crown, slender drooping twigs and white peeling bark that becomes dark and rugged at the base with age. Diamond-shaped green leaves turn yellow in autumn and yellow-brown catkins appear in early spring. Extremely hardy and adaptable, it suits open sites where its eventual scale can be accommodated.
