Japanese Barberry 'Harlequin'
I hold the RHS | Award of Garden Merit
Berberis thunbergii f. atropurpurea ‘Harlequin’ forms a compact upright shrub with deep purple leaves irregularly splashed and mottled creamy white and grey. Pale yellow, red-tinged flowers appear in spring, followed by dark red berries in autumn. Reaching roughly 1.2m but staying relatively narrow, it brings strong foliage contrast without taking up the space of a large shrub.
