Baptisia ‘Lemon Meringue’ Description

Baptisia ‘Lemon Meringue’ forms an upright, vase-shaped clump of attractive blue-green foliage. Charcoal-grey buds and stems carry long spikes of clear lemon-yellow pea flowers in late spring and early summer, creating a strong contrast across the mature plant. Decorative seed pods develop after flowering and may be left standing into autumn. Reaching around 90cm high and wide, it has enough structure to replace a small shrub in a sunny mixed or prairie-style border. Grow in full sun or light shade in average to poor soil that drains freely. Established plants are drought tolerant and long lived, but their deep roots make relocation difficult. Avoid rich feeding and protect the crown from persistent winter wet.
