Azalea japonica ‘Silver Queen’ Description

Azalea japonica ‘Silver Queen’ forms a neat, rounded evergreen shrub with distinctive green leaves edged and splashed with creamy white. Bright fuchsia-pink funnel-shaped flowers appear abundantly in spring, creating a bold contrast with the variegated foliage. Growing to around 50cm high and wide, it fits easily into small ericaceous borders, Japanese-style planting and large containers. Plant in partial shade or gentle morning sun in moist but well-drained acidic soil. Strong afternoon sunlight may scorch the pale leaf margins, while drought can cause leaf loss. It is suitable for sheltered Irish gardens and provides useful colour even outside the flowering season. Use ericaceous compost in containers and water with rainwater where possible.
