Aucuba japonica ‘Variegata’ is a female evergreen shrub with glossy green leaves heavily spotted creamy yellow, making it useful for brightening shady corners where many colourful shrubs struggle. Small purple flowers in spring may be followed by glossy red berries if a male aucuba is nearby. It develops into a broad, dense shrub around 1.5–2.5m high and wide.
