Aster novi-belgii ‘Winston Churchill’ Description

Aster novi-belgii ‘Winston Churchill’ forms a bushy, clump-forming perennial with narrow dark green leaves and upright stems reaching around 80cm. Masses of bright red-pink, semi-double daisy flowers with vivid yellow centres appear from late summer into early autumn. The strong flower colour works well among ornamental grasses and softer pink, blue or white perennials, while the blooms attract bees and butterflies. Grow it in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Maintain consistent summer moisture, particularly on light ground, but avoid winter waterlogging. The stems may benefit from support in exposed Irish gardens. Cut back in late autumn and divide the clump in spring every few years.
