Arenaria montana Description

Arenaria montana is a low-growing evergreen perennial that forms spreading cushions of narrow green foliage. From late spring into early summer, the plant becomes covered with relatively large white flowers, each with five rounded petals and a small greenish centre. It is well suited to rock gardens, raised beds, gravel planting and positions where the stems can trail over stones or walls. Grow it in full sun in moderately fertile but freely draining soil. It dislikes heavy, waterlogged ground, particularly during prolonged Irish winter rain. Trim lightly after flowering to encourage dense new growth and prevent the centre becoming open. Established clumps can be divided or propagated from cuttings if additional plants are required.
