Amorpha fruticosa
Bastard Indigo
Amorpha fruticosa, or Bastard Indigo, is a large deciduous shrub with feathery leaves and slender racemes of deep purple flowers tipped with orange. Blooming in late spring and early summer, it adds unusual colour and form. Medium to large in scale, it is drought tolerant and generally pest free. Its spreading habit provides both structure and seasonal interest for Irish gardens.
