Alstroemeria ‘Summer Heat’ Description

Alstroemeria ‘Summer Heat’ forms a compact clump of leafy stems carrying clusters of tomato-red and yellow funnel-shaped flowers. Tiny dark flecks decorate the inner petals, adding detail to the vivid colouring. The display begins in late spring and can continue through summer into early autumn when faded stems are removed consistently. Growing to around 40cm high and wide, it suits border fronts, patio containers and small cutting gardens. Plant in full sun in fertile, moist but well-drained soil and shelter it from strong wind. Rather than trimming individual blooms, pull the entire spent stem from the base to stimulate new shoots. Protect young plants with a dry mulch during their first Irish winters.
