Agapanthus orientalis ‘Blue’ develops a substantial evergreen clump of broad, strap-shaped leaves. Tall sturdy stems rise above the foliage in summer, carrying rounded heads of blue, funnel-shaped flowers. Its bold outline suits sunny wall-side borders, gravel planting, coastal gardens and large patio containers. Grow it in fertile, moisture-retentive but freely draining soil in full sun, allowing sufficient space for the clump to broaden over time. Water and feed regularly while the foliage and flowers are developing, but avoid wet soil during winter. As an evergreen agapanthus, it is less cold tolerant than many deciduous hybrids.
