Acer palmatum ‘Iyoshi’ Description

Acer palmatum ‘Iyoshi’ is a compact variegated Japanese maple with foliage that changes noticeably through the growing season. New leaves emerge green with delicate pink and cream edging, then mature to green with clearer white margins during summer. Bright red autumn colour provides a strong contrast before the leaves fall. Its graceful, relatively narrow habit reaches roughly 2 metres high and around 1.5 metres wide, allowing it to fit into smaller borders, courtyards and large patio pots. Grow it in moist but well-drained soil in partial shade, where the variegation will remain clear without excessive scorching. Choose a position protected from drying wind and strong afternoon sun, and water container-grown plants regularly during warm or windy weather.
