Acer griseum
Paperbark Maple
Acer griseum, the paperbark maple, is a small deciduous tree 8–12m tall with a wide-spreading habit. Flowering in spring, it is best known for its peeling, papery chestnut-brown bark and trifoliate leaves that turn brilliant red and orange in autumn. Awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit, it thrives in sheltered, well-drained sites. Its low maintenance nature and ornamental bark make it a prized specimen tree in Irish gardens.
