Lavandula stoechas ‘Fairy Wings Purple’ Description

Lavandula stoechas ‘Fairy Wings Purple’ is a compact Spanish lavender with aromatic grey-green foliage and dark purple flower heads crowned by conspicuous upright purple bracts. The flowers can appear over a long season from spring into summer, especially when faded heads are removed regularly. Grow in full sun in lean, sharply drained soil or gritty container compost. Once established it copes well with dry conditions but dislikes prolonged saturation. Spanish lavender is not as reliably hardy as English lavender, making winter drainage and shelter particularly important in Ireland. It is well suited to patio containers that can be moved into protection during severe weather. Lightly shape the plant after flowering without cutting back into old bare stems.
