Lavandula stoechas ‘Lilac Wings’ Description

Lavandula stoechas ‘Lilac Wings’ is a compact Spanish lavender with aromatic grey-green leaves and dark purple flower heads crowned by pale lilac flag-like bracts. The contrasting colours make the flowers particularly decorative from late spring through summer. Grow in full sun in poor to moderately fertile soil with excellent drainage. It is well suited to gravel gardens and patio containers, where its drought tolerance and long flowering period are useful. Like other Spanish lavenders, it is less reliably hardy than English lavender and can be damaged by both severe frost and wet winter soil. In Ireland, choose a sheltered position and move containers under protection during prolonged cold. Deadhead frequently and trim lightly after flowering, avoiding old leafless stems.
