Lavandula pedunculata subsp. lusitanica ‘Lusi Pink’ is a compact Portuguese-type lavender producing dark purple flower heads crowned by conspicuous soft pink bracts. Aromatic grey-green foliage forms a neat evergreen mound beneath the flowers, which can continue over a long period in warm conditions. Grow in full sun in poor to moderately fertile soil with excellent drainage. It is less reliably cold hardy than English lavender and is particularly vulnerable to the combination of frost and wet winter ground. In Ireland, a sheltered patio container, gravel garden or warm wall-side position is safest, with pots moved under protection during severe weather. Trim lightly after flowering to maintain shape, but do not cut hard into old woody stems.
