Kniphofia ‘Poco Red’ Description

Kniphofia ‘Poco Red’ is a compact red hot poker bred for a tidy habit and strong flower production. Upright spikes of bright red tubular flowers rise above narrow grass-like foliage during summer, giving vivid colour without the height and spread of many traditional kniphofias. Mature plants generally remain below 60cm in flower, making them useful in containers, border fronts and compact perennial schemes. Grow in full sun in fertile soil that remains reasonably moist during active growth but drains freely. It is hardy, but cold saturated ground can damage the crown, so good winter drainage is important in Irish gardens. The flowers attract pollinating insects. Remove faded spikes after flowering and clear dead foliage in spring while retaining healthy leaves over winter.
