Kniphofia citrina Description

Kniphofia citrina is a yellow-flowered red hot poker forming a clump of narrow, arching green leaves. Upright stems carry dense spikes of tubular flowers in soft lemon to greenish-yellow shades during summer, providing a gentler effect than the red and orange forms. Plants can reach around 1 metre high in flower, depending on conditions. Grow in full sun in fertile soil that remains reasonably moist during spring and summer but drains freely through winter. It combines well with blue, purple and white perennials and the flowers are attractive to pollinating insects. Hardy in suitable conditions, it nevertheless dislikes prolonged cold saturation around the crown. Remove old flower stems after blooming and tidy dead foliage in spring as fresh growth develops.
