Knautia ‘Green Lightning’ Description

Knautia ‘Green Lightning’ is a compact, clump-forming perennial producing slender branching flower stems topped by dense pincushion-like blooms in cerise-red to purplish red shades. Flowering begins in summer and can continue well into early autumn, particularly when faded heads are regularly removed. The open habit mixes naturally with grasses and other meadow-style perennials and the flowers are highly attractive to bees and butterflies. Grow in full sun in ordinary, freely draining soil and avoid overly rich or persistently wet ground. Mature plants can reach around 70cm to 1 metre in flower depending on conditions. Deadhead to encourage continued blooming, or leave some seed heads for a looser naturalistic effect. Divide ageing clumps where vigour begins to decline.
