Kerria japonica ‘Pleniflora’ Description

Kerria japonica ‘Pleniflora’ is a vigorous deciduous shrub with bright green arching stems and fully double, rounded golden-yellow flowers. The main display appears in spring, with occasional flowers often continuing later into summer. Mature plants generally reach around 2 metres high and can form a broad colony through suckering growth. It thrives in partial shade but also grows in sun where the soil remains moist, making it useful for woodland edges, north-facing boundaries and informal mixed borders. It is fully hardy and dependable in Ireland. After flowering, cut some of the oldest stems back to ground level to maintain a fresh framework and remove unwanted suckers where spread needs controlling. Avoid shearing the whole shrub into a tight shape, which spoils its natural arching habit.
