Juniperus squamata ‘Holger’

Juniperus squamata ‘Holger’ Description

Juniperus squamata ‘Holger’ is a bushy evergreen conifer with an irregular, spreading outline and distinctive two-tone foliage. Fresh growth emerges creamy yellow, contrasting strongly with the older blue-grey needles before gradually becoming greener as it matures. Plants generally reach around 1 to 1.5 metres high and wide over time. Grow in full sun or partial shade in almost any soil that drains freely, including chalk, loam and sand. It is very hardy and tolerant of exposed conditions once established. The main limitation is persistent winter saturation, which should be avoided. It works well on sunny banks, in larger rock gardens and among darker conifers. Routine pruning is unnecessary, although young leafy shoots can be shortened if required to keep a balanced shape.
