Iris ‘Tulip Festival’ Description

Iris ‘Tulip Festival’ is a tall bearded iris grown for its colourful, ruffled flowers held above upright fans of sword-shaped foliage. The blooms combine warm contrasting tones and provide a bold vertical accent in sunny cottage and perennial borders. Plants typically reach around 80 to 90cm in flower. Grow in full sun in fertile, neutral to slightly alkaline soil with very good drainage. Position the rhizomes shallowly, leaving their upper surfaces exposed rather than covering them with mulch or deep soil. Persistent winter wet is a greater problem than cold, particularly on heavy Irish ground. Remove flower stalks after the display and divide crowded clumps every three to five years after flowering, discarding weak central rhizomes and replanting vigorous outer pieces.
