Hydrangea paniculata ‘Pinky Winky’ Description

Hydrangea paniculata ‘Pinky Winky’ is a vigorous upright deciduous shrub famous for its dramatic two-tone flower heads. Long conical panicles open white from midsummer, with the older florets at the base gradually turning pink and deep rose-red while newly opening flowers at the tips remain white. The resulting contrast lasts for several weeks. Mature plants generally reach around 1.5 to 2 metres high and wide. Grow in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. It is fully hardy and extremely reliable in Irish gardens. Flowers are produced on new wood, so prune in late winter or early spring. Strong stems normally hold the panicles well, although shelter is useful in very exposed or windy positions.
