Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Runaway Bride’ Description

Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Runaway Bride’, also sold as ‘Snow White’, is distinctive because flowers develop from side buds along much of each stem rather than appearing only at the tips. Numerous white lacecap-like flower clusters cover the arching branches from late spring into summer, creating a cascading effect. Plants generally reach around 1 metre high and can spread 1.2 to 1.5 metres. Grow in partial shade or gentle morning sun in fertile, humus-rich soil that remains consistently moist but drains freely. It performs particularly well in large containers, raised beds and low retaining walls. It is hardy in sheltered Irish gardens. Prune minimally after flowering or in spring, removing only dead or damaged stems so the naturally floriferous branching structure is retained.
