Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Madame Emile Mouillère’ is an old and dependable white-flowered mophead hydrangea. Large rounded flower heads open white, often with a blue or pink eye, and may develop pale green or blush colouring as they mature. The glossy foliage forms a broad deciduous shrub generally reaching around 1.5 to 2 metres high and wide. Grow in partial shade or gentle morning sun in fertile, humus-rich soil that remains consistently moist but drains freely. It performs particularly well in Ireland’s cool, moist climate, although shelter from late frost protects the developing buds. White flower colour remains largely stable across different soil types. Prune lightly in spring by removing faded heads and dead stems while retaining healthy older wood.
