Humulus lupulus ‘Nordbrau’ Description

Humulus lupulus ‘Nordbrau’, also associated with the brewing cultivar Nordbrau or Northern Brewer types, is a vigorous perennial hop producing long twining stems and aromatic female flower cones. Growth can extend 4 to 6 metres or more during a single summer before dying completely back to the rootstock in winter. Grow in full sun in deep, fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil and provide tall, sturdy wires or another strong support. Regular feeding and watering encourage vigorous growth and cone production. It is fully hardy and grows well in Ireland, although the crop and aroma of the cones depend on summer warmth and growing conditions. Cut all stems to ground level after they die back and train the strongest fresh shoots onto supports each spring.
