Christmas Rose
Helleborus niger, the Christmas rose, is a low-growing evergreen perennial. Its leathery leaves form clumps, topped in midwinter with large white flowers, sometimes tinged pink. Compact and upright, it reaches about 30cm, brightening shaded borders when little else is in flower. RHS Award of Garden Merit, pollinator-friendly, and good for cutting, it is a classic winter plant in Ireland.
