Hebe sutherlandii Description

Hebe sutherlandii is a compact evergreen shrub forming a dense, spreading mound of small grey-green to blue-grey leaves. White flowers are carried in short spikes above the foliage during summer and provide nectar for small pollinating insects. Plants generally remain around 30 to 60cm high and spread wider with age. Grow in full sun or light partial shade in moderately fertile soil that drains freely. The species is notably tolerant of wind, coastal conditions and cool temperatures, making it a reliable choice for many Irish gardens. Avoid permanently waterlogged ground, especially through winter. Its naturally neat habit requires little pruning, although damaged or overly long shoots can be lightly shortened in spring or after flowering.
