Foeniculum vulgare
Common Fennel
Common fennel, Foeniculum vulgare, is a tall, aromatic perennial with feathery green leaves and a strong aniseed scent. In summer it produces umbels of small yellow flowers, followed by seed heads that can be cut for drying. With its upright, clump-forming habit and fragrant foliage, it adds height and texture to borders in Irish gardens. It is also loved by pollinators and useful for cut flowers.
