Fargesia angustissima Description

Fargesia angustissima is a graceful evergreen bamboo forming a tight, non-invasive clump of slender canes and exceptionally narrow foliage. The fine leaves create a light, feathery appearance while still providing effective screening around patios, boundaries and woodland-style planting. Mature plants can reach approximately 3 to 4 metres high, depending on soil and shelter. Grow in partial shade or gentle sun in fertile, humus-rich soil that remains consistently moist but drains freely. It is hardy in many Irish gardens but is less tolerant of strong drying winds than broader-leaved bamboos. Choose a sheltered position and mulch annually to conserve moisture around the shallow roots. Container-grown plants need frequent watering and a substantial pot. Remove weak or damaged canes at ground level during spring.
