Epimedium × rubrum, or Hybrid Red Barrenwort, forms clumps of red-tinted foliage that also colours in autumn. In April and May, sprays of crimson flowers with yellow spurs rise above the leaves. Small and spreading, it carries RHS Award of Garden Merit and is well suited to ground cover or shaded Irish planting.
