Cerastium tomentosum ‘Silberteppich’ is a compact selection of snow-in-summer forming a dense carpet of narrow, woolly silver leaves. White star-shaped flowers are produced in abundance during late spring and early summer, creating a bright display over walls, stones and border edges. It is useful in rock gardens, gravel beds, dry slopes and positions where the stems can trail over hard landscaping. Grow in full sun in lean, sharply drained soil and avoid rich feeding, which can encourage weak, open growth. This cultivar is generally less vigorous than the species but may still spread beyond its intended area. Trim after flowering to maintain a tight silver mat and prevent self-seeding or unwanted rooting.
