Carex testacea, the orange New Zealand sedge, forms a flowing evergreen mound of narrow arching leaves, olive green in summer but developing increasingly warm coppery-orange colour in winter. Usually around 40–60cm high, it is especially effective in containers, gravel planting and sunny borders where the foliage can be seen against stone or contrasting green plants.
