Azalea viscosa Description

Azalea viscosa, also known as swamp azalea, forms a bushy deciduous shrub with dark green leaves that are paler and slightly bluish beneath. Very fragrant, narrow funnel-shaped white flowers open in early to midsummer, with deep pink flushing along the tubes and long projecting stamens. Reaching up to around 2.5 metres, it is best suited to larger woodland borders, informal screens and naturally moist areas beside ponds or streams. Grow in full sun or partial shade in humus-rich acidic soil that remains moist but drains sufficiently. The cool, damp conditions found in many Irish gardens suit it particularly well. Allow enough room for its mature spread and avoid allowing newly planted shrubs to dry out.
