Aster macrophyllus ‘Twilight’ Description

Aster macrophyllus ‘Twilight’ forms a bushy perennial clump reaching around 1 metre in height. Slender branching stems carry clusters of pale lavender-blue daisy flowers with yellow centres from late summer into autumn. The light, informal display works well among shrubs, ornamental grasses and woodland-style perennials, while the flowers provide late nectar for pollinating insects. Grow it in full sun or partial shade in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil. It is considered more resistant to powdery mildew than many traditional asters and performs reliably in cool Irish conditions. Cut the stems back after flowering or leave them temporarily for winter structure. Divide established plants in spring every few years to maintain vigour.
