Aster amellus ‘King Blue’ Description

Aster amellus ‘King Blue’ forms a sturdy clump of upright or gently arching stems with narrow mid-green leaves. Loose clusters of large violet-blue flowers, each with a bright yellow centre, appear from late summer into autumn and attract bees and butterflies. Growing to around 60cm, it brings useful colour to the front or middle of a sunny border without requiring extensive support. Plant it in full sun in moderately fertile, well-drained soil. European asters perform best where winter drainage is good, so avoid heavy, stagnant ground in wetter parts of Ireland. Cut back after flowering and divide established clumps in spring every few years to maintain strong growth and flowering.
