Artemisia schmidtiana ‘Nana’ Description

Artemisia schmidtiana ‘Nana’ forms a dense, low mound of finely divided leaves with a soft, almost silky silver appearance. The aromatic foliage reaches only around 10cm high and spreads gradually to create a neat carpet. Small yellowish flower heads may appear in summer, although they are insignificant compared with the foliage. Use it in rock gardens, gravel beds, dry border edges and alpine containers, where its colour contrasts well with dark stone and stronger green leaves. Grow in full sun in gritty, well-drained soil and avoid rich feeding. Persistent winter wet can cause the centre to rot, so raised planting is advisable in wetter Irish gardens. Trim lightly in spring to remove damaged growth.
