Aquilegia vulgaris ‘White Barlow’ Description

Aquilegia vulgaris ‘White Barlow’ produces upright branching stems carrying fully double white flowers in late spring and early summer. Layers of narrow, pointed petals form rounded blooms with a distinctive pompon-like appearance, held above clumps of divided grey-green foliage. Reaching around 75 to 90cm, it provides light vertical interest through mixed borders and combines particularly well with ferns, hostas and darker-leaved plants. Grow in full sun or partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. It performs well in Irish gardens and may seed naturally where conditions suit it. Seedlings can vary, so remove developing seed heads if maintaining a pure white planting scheme is important.
