Alcea rosea ‘Chater’s Double Rose’ Description

Alcea rosea ‘Chater’s Double Rose’ produces strong upright stems lined with large, densely petalled rose-pink flowers from early to late summer. The rounded, lobed leaves create a leafy base, while the flowers open gradually from the lower part of each spike upwards, extending the display over several weeks. Mature plants commonly reach around 1.8 to 2.4 metres, making them useful for bringing height to cottage borders or softening sunny walls and fences. Plant in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil and provide support where the stems may be exposed to wind. Water at the base rather than over the foliage. Remove badly affected leaves promptly if hollyhock rust appears and clear away old stems after flowering.
