Alcea rosea ‘Chater’s Double Purple’ Description

Alcea rosea ‘Chater’s Double Purple’ is an upright biennial or short-lived perennial producing tall flower spikes crowded with ruffled, fully double blooms in deep pinkish-purple shades. Rounded, softly hairy leaves form a substantial base, while the flowering stems can reach more than 2 metres during summer. It is especially effective against a sunny wall, fence or at the back of a cottage-style border, where the vertical flowers can be seen clearly. Grow in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil and shelter the stems from strong winds or provide discreet support. Remove faded flowers if self-seeding is not wanted. Hollyhocks are prone to rust, so clear away affected leaves and old growth to improve air circulation and garden hygiene.
