Aconitum napellus ‘Album’ Description

Aconitum napellus ‘Album’ forms an upright clump of finely divided dark green foliage, producing unbranched spikes of white hooded flowers with a subtle grey flush from mid to late summer. Reaching approximately 1.5 metres tall, it provides valuable vertical structure and a pale alternative to the more familiar blue-flowered monkshoods. Plant it towards the back of a cool mixed border, among shrubs or in woodland-style planting. It grows best in partial shade in deep, fertile, moisture-retentive soil that drains freely. Mulch in spring to keep the roots cool and water during prolonged dry weather. Every part of the plant is highly toxic if eaten and contact may irritate skin, so wear gloves when planting, dividing or removing dead stems.
