Acer pentaphyllum Description

Acer pentaphyllum develops into an open, elegant small tree with foliage quite unlike that of most maples. Each leaf is divided into five, occasionally more, slender dark green leaflets held on reddish stalks, creating a light and delicate canopy. The foliage develops shades of yellow, orange and red before falling in autumn. Mature plants generally reach around 6 to 9 metres, although growth can be slow in cooler conditions. Use it as a distinctive specimen in a sheltered lawn, courtyard or woodland-edge planting. Grow in sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. Protection from cold drying winds and severe late frost is advisable, particularly while the tree is young.
