Acer palmatum ‘Bloodgood’ is a dependable purple-leaved Japanese maple, forming a broad, bushy shrub or small tree with deeply coloured red-purple leaves that intensify to red in autumn. Small purple spring flowers are followed by red winged fruits. At around 2.5–4m, it has enough presence for a specimen without becoming an enormous tree.
