Juniperus × pfitzeriana ‘Gold Star’ Description

Juniperus × pfitzeriana ‘Gold Star’ forms a broad, spreading evergreen shrub with arching branches clothed in golden-yellow to yellow-green foliage. Its layered habit is useful for covering ground, softening banks and providing year-round contrast among darker conifers and shrubs. Mature plants generally reach around 1 metre high and spread 1.5 to 2 metres or more. Grow in full sun for the strongest colour in almost any well-drained soil. It tolerates poor, sandy and chalky ground and becomes drought resistant after establishment. The plant is very hardy and suitable for exposed Irish gardens, but persistent winter waterlogging can lead to root problems. No routine pruning is required. Where necessary, shorten young leafy growth rather than cutting into old brown wood.
