Hydrangea macrophylla ‘French Bolero Blue’ Description

Hydrangea macrophylla ‘French Bolero Blue’ is a distinctive compact hydrangea bred to produce flowers from multiple side buds along its arching stems rather than only at the tips. Blue lacecap-style flower clusters create a cascading effect from late spring through summer. In less acidic soil the blooms may become violet or pink. Plants generally reach around 80cm to 1 metre high and spread wider as the stems arch outward. Grow in partial shade or gentle morning sun in fertile, humus-rich acidic soil that remains consistently moist but drains freely. It is particularly effective in large containers and raised beds. Prune very lightly, removing only dead wood and old flower heads so the flowering side shoots are retained.
